Learning In The 21st Century

Nowadays classrooms are different from those of the past. Students no longer sit in rows of desks;
teachers are teaching alongside students.

Many schools provide the luxury of using a laptop in the classroom. Today, schools and teacher are actively searching for ways to prepare students for the future. To provide additional opportunities for learning, schools have extended school year
calendars and the length of the school day.

Creating learners who take intellectual risks, fostering learning dispositions, and nurturing school communities where everyone is a learner.

We have mentioned some of the primary ways in which 21st-century skills intersect with efforts to enhance schools:

Implement Learner-centred methods instead of Teacher-centred:

Today, the digital classroom has merely replaced the teacher with a voiced animation. It has found that learners forget what they have ‘learnt’ at the end of the academic year. Learners must retain what they have learnt so that they can execute their knowledge and skills to real-world problems.

Make your classroom an active place where reading, writing, discussions, solving problems, creating things take place regularly.

Make use of technology

With the help of technology, you can enable active learning in your classroom. We all are surrounded by internet, laptop, tablet and smartphones. These devices are often used in class and at home and it also serves as a means of coordinating between the two.

You can use technology in different ways:

Digital classrooms:

Make learning interesting with a projection of animations, slideshows, and other audio-visual media.

The Flipped Classroom:

The flipped classroom means studying at home by watching videos. You can learn and understand the topic at home and then reinforce that learning in the classroom which can be done either alone or in pairs or groups.

Remember: Not to replace a teacher with a technology. Particularly when a learner is required to perform a task manually like writing.

Education, society and the nation are symbiotically related to one another. What we learn in school comes from the expectations of the nation after considering global trends, economic trends technology trends, culture and values. Education help kids to blossom bring out their talents and at
the same time prepare them for a successful career in the future. It is our responsibility to boost kids to be more active in the classroom. Our true purpose of education will be fulfilled when every kid contributes actively in making the world a better place.

Take Away

Schools and teachers should use the tools the techniques in the classroom. Learning in the 21st century needs critical thinking, global collaboration and adapting the latest technology and we should offer all these to our students regularly. Today’s students are fortunate to have powerful
learning tools at their disposal that allow them to locate, acquire, and even create knowledge much more quickly than their predecessors.
